Dietary Advice For Specific Liver Conditions
Liver Health?
Drinking more than the recommended limits of alcohol can lead to serious health problems. Most people think that alcohol is fairly harmless and just something to be enjoyed. Other than a few ill-effects; a hangover the next day or putting on a little bit of weight, many people do not know about the unseen damage alcohol can cause to your body
Liver Transplantation
A liver transplant is an operation where your diseased liver is removed and replaced with a healthy donor human liver. Although liver transplants are now quite common, the operation is not undertaken lightly. It is a major operation and the body will always see the ‘new’ liver as a foreign agent and will try to destroy it. This means that if you have a liver transplant you will have to take medication for the rest of your life to stop your body rejecting the donor liver.
Success rates and leading a normal life after liver transplant is continuing to improve with each passing years, due to advancement in the technology, pre-transplant counselling and excellent post-transplant care.
What is Hepatitis B?
Is a form of liver inflammation caused by hepatitis B virus, which is carried in the blood and body fluids which infects and damages the liver. It is the most widespread form of hepatitis worldwide.
What is Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C, sometimes called hep C or HCV, is a virus that is carried in the blood which infects and damages the liver. This virus can cause liver inflammation (swelling) and fibrosis (scarring). In people with chronic (long-term) hepatitis C infection, inflammation and fibrosis continue to spread. Over time, usually many years, this can lead to cirrhosis(last stage of liver damage)
What is ERCP?
ERCP is a procedure that allows the doctor to take detailed x-rays of the bile duct and pancreas. This procedure is performed using a flexible tube (endoscope) which is slightly thinner than your middle finger. The scope is passed through your mouth and advanced into your stomach and duodenum, allowing the doctor to carry out treatment.
